Landscaping highlighted with stunning masonry for a new home in a partially wooded setting overlooking a sunny meadow area.
Rue worked in consultation with the architects to create a design that blends the house to the site, welcomes visitors and provides a relaxing environment for enjoying wildlife and nature.
Large fieldstones found on the site are incorporated throughout the project and provide a framework for the planting design. Curvilinear edges and slab stonework complement the existing fieldstones. The masons executed the concept beautifully.
The choicest stones were selected to form the foundation of an elegant sitting wall at the edge of a patio. Additional stone materials complement the native fieldstone: a thick granite cap and bluestone flagging. Drainage holes are artfully integrated into the wall.
One enters the property via a gently sweeping driveway through a small woodland. Additional Amelanchier & Dogwood provide a mid-level understory layer, with a ground cover of ferns and leucothoe.
Visitors are led to the front door by way of a generous curvilinear walkway with large irregular flagging and edges that softly bleed into the lawn.Partially buried Individual boulders serve as punctuation points and focal relics.
Less formal retaining walls help the building connect with lay of the land.
Native grasses, ground covers, shrubs and trees will fill the voids, soften the stonework, provide extended seasonal interest and attract birds, butterflies and other wildlife.
